How to Present an E-seminar

Q: What is an e-seminar ?
A: An e-seminar has all the elements of a face-to-face seminar that is presented in a seminar room. The only difference is that it is conducted via a mailing list over Internet and it is asynchronous (not "live" and not a "chat"). Exchanges/Discussion between the audience and the presentor is by email and is for 2 to 3 weeks.
See examples in Past IOBB Activities

Q: How do I give an e-seminar  ?
You choose and submit materials (your papers, reports, web pages, etc) to the organizer. The accepted materials will on the web for participants to read and during the e-seminar, you will interact and respond to questions from participants. If you are presenting e-seminar on a topic that has no earlier e-seminars, an introductory or review paper is suggested before entering into more specialised research papers. In this context, educational course materials may even prove useful to establish a knowledge base for participants. E-seminars can also be organized to present  technology/systems and products. So if you are selling a service or product that is elaborated on a website, you may submit materials in these webpages for an e-seminar.

Q: How much time do I need to spend to give an e-seminar ?
You need to check your emails at least once daily and to respond to questions asked. Ideally it would be great if you can also check emails over the weekend. On an average, you may need to spend 30 minutes per day but will also depend on how much interactions occur during the seminar.

Q: When can I give my e-seminar ?
In principle it is decided by the presentor. Time consideration is needed for the process in the preparation of an e-seminar which will include :
(a) acceptance of your suggested materials
(b) agreement on an appropriate date with supporting staff (editor, chairperson)
(c) finding a suitable date that does not clash with other activities
(d) making a public announcement at least 2 weeks before the start of the seminar. Info in this announcement will include abstract, a brief self-introduction of the presentor, other materials, e.g. pictures, ppt files, etc..

Q: who should I contact ?
Please contact foo@stockholm.bostream.se with the title of your seminar, access to background material(s) and information.

Q: What do I get if I give an e-seminar ?
You get a free IOBB membership for the next year. The value of this free membership is 0,5% of your month's pay.

Q: who do I contact for with more questions ?
If the information above does not answer your question, please send your questions to  foo@stockholm.bostream.se
