The Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC) is a joint research center at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and Chalmers, which aims to build a material research program that can develop new products using the Swedish forests. The base is a donation from Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (KAW) of SEK 120 million that will finance the first three years (2009-2011) of operations. The financing perspective of KAW is 10 years.
The WWSC is organized into five research Themes:
- Theme 1: From wood chips to material components
- Theme 2: New biopolymers and surfaces
- Theme 3: Fibers and fibrous materials
- Theme 4: Biocomposites
- Theme 5: Micro/nano structured materials
Assoc. Prof. Harry Brumer is leading projects in research Themes 1 and 2 of the WWSC, each of which is supporting one post-doctoral researcher in his group.
