Research interests

My research focuses on the challenges and opportunities for glycoscience in energy and materials science. My research group aims to engineer bioinspired composite materials with multi-functionalities and well-defined structures using native and modified natural polymers with synthetic materials. The strategy is based on the integrated use of polymer synthesis and processing, chemo-enzymatic modification, and supramolecular self-assembly as inspired by natural materials such as plant cell walls, lobster and insect cuticles, and nacre.

Our work has been funded by the Swedish Research Council (VR, 2015-05030, 2004-3919), the EU FP7 NanoCelluComp project (Grant Agreement No. 263017), the Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC), the KTH Center for Advanced Carbohydrate Materials (CarboMat, Formas, 2009-1687), and the Swedish Center for Biomimetic Fiber Engineering (Biomime).
