Call for proposals for the Cell Factory Programme
The Programme Board for Cell Factory for Functional Genomics, financed through The Foundation for Strategic Research, hereby announces a call for proposals. The program involves protein and proteomic research spanning from protein expression to combinatorial approaches. Methods to explore interactions between proteins and protein domains are of particular importance. The program consists of three research areas of strategic importance for biomedical and biotechnological research. I. Protein expression in different recombinant hosts. II. Combinatorial protein chemistry, including phage display techniques. III. Proteomics, including protein characterization and analysis. Project proposals for funding of a graduate student in the topics above are invited. Collaborative and multi-disciplinary projects covering two or three of the areas listed above will be encouraged. A total of 10 projects will be initiated (Jan. 2000) with an annual budget of 350 kSEK for three years. Details of the programme plan can be obtained at http://www.biotech.kth.se/cellfactory Outline for application (a maximum of 10 pages for 1-7) 1. Cover letter stating project title, research area and principle investigator 2. Project summary (not exceeding a half page) 3. Project plan, including (i) specific aims, (ii) background (iii) preliminary results and (iv) project proposal (v) literature references 4. Staff description (the present research group) 5. CV and scientific output (during the last five years) 6. Strategic importance of the project 7. Budget (co-funding if applicable) The application should be submitted in 15 copies to: Registratorkontoret Dead-line for receipt of proposal; No further applications will be considered. The proposals will be subjected to review by experts in the field and based on their suggestions the board will decide to finance 10 individual projects starting from January 1, 2000. Approved proposals will be displayed at the Cell Factory home page (http://www.biotech.kth.se/cellfactory) and students from universities and the local research schools in biomedicine are encouraged to apply directly to the principle investigators for PhD positions. The principle investigators of the individual projects need to report to the Programme Board their selection of PhD-student in order to receive funding. Additional information can be obtained from the programme director Mathias Uhlén (phone 08-7907516), email mathias@biochem.kth.se or the chairman of the board, Maris Hartmanis (018-165818). |
