To teach research students design thinking and to make design students aware of the R&D process. To help shorten the time from discovery to market through better understanding of materials identities and the two-way communication between market and research.
Through communication and visualization of materials properties, students will develop a hierarchical design concept concerning integrated materials and product design.
Topics covered include:
- design thinking
- cellulose-based fiber composites and future development
- hierarchic design
- materials identities
- sustainability implications
- human-product-interactions/ perceived materials qualities
- visualization of materials properties and future implementations of research results
The course will be given:
- fall semester 2011 (1st batch)
- fall semester 2013 (2nd batch)
STFI-Packforsk and University College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack), Stockholm
7.5 credits (about 200 hours or 5 weeks full time studies)
The course is given together with the Master program at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Konstfack) in Stockholm.
Learning activities include:
- lectures
- tutorials
- laboratory work
- interactions between PhD research students and Design students
Distance learning:
2-3 weeks of distance learning and 3-4 weeks on location at STFI and Konstfack
